Examples… If you study music on the VIOLIN, (a violin and a fiddle look exactly the same btw.) you can study classically (ie: Suzuki or Sassmannshaus, Simply Strings, All Strings, Wohlfahrt or Sevcik) or you can study Folk Music, like Blue Grass, or Fiddle Music. The path that most of our violin “family” instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, tend to follow is to study Fiddle music and graduate slowly into classical music to play with the SPMA String Orchestra.
When our Violin students are beginning to learn their Fiddle Songs, we like to pair them with beginning guitar students and beginning Bass students to form small Fiddle Groups, or Bands, to play on recitals or SPMA Community shows: Sac Prep Music Academy is active in playing throughout our community (It’s part of our Mission!). We’ve play at Event Centers, the Sacramento Midtown Farmers Market, The Earth Day Festival and at Senior Citizen Centers.
If you study Guitar at Sac Prep Music Academy, you can do the same as the Violin students. You can learn Classically and learn Finger Style guitar, or you can learn Folk music or Rock and Roll and learn to be a rhythm guitar player. Most guitar students at SPMA learn all of their open guitar chords first, and begin by learning songs out of the easy Beatles Song Book. Guitar students commonly find themselves paired up with Electric Bass Students, and even Drum Set Students.
At Sac Prep Music Academy piano and voice are taught with a strong emphasis on performance. Piano method builds a strong foundation in music theory and piano technique, so that the focus can then be turned to artistry and performance. In Voice coaching, the goal is to help every student understand their vocal anatomy, resonance, vowel shape, clear pronunciation, and song interpretation; specializing in jazz, pop, rock, and musical theatre style singing. SPMA Voice students have gone on to major in musical theatre and music, performing in college theatrical productions, Music Circus Sacramento, Sacramento Theatre Company MainStage shows, and National Tours.
