Hosted by 501c3 Org. Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy, and honored to do so, Richard William Baker’s life was cut short by a one in a million disease, CJD. Even though he has left us he will not be forgotten.
A loving husband, father and grand-father, Rick Baker defined himself as a trumpet player, music educator & mentor. He found the best version of himself standing in front of a band of 70 to 80 junior high school students, each holding the instrument of their choosing. It was his passion to instill in any student in his class the love & excellence in the joy of making music. He demanded a desire in his students to be the best that they could possibly be. He encouraged them to practice perfectly. His motto was not “practice makes perfect,” but instead “perfect practice makes perfect.”
Under Mr. Baker’s direction, the Arden Band went on to win numerous awards in California and Nevada. He believed in his students and they believed in him.
The Richard William Baker Memorial Music Scholarship Fund will continue the legacy of this great mentor to so many students by honoring one student a year. The honored student will have shown great potential and willingness to continue pursuing education through music. They will be rewarded with a scholarship to be used for a new instrument and or private lessons.
Mr. Bakers family is donating the first $5000 to start the scholarship fund and would appreciate any and all support from the many people whose lives were made better by this amazing man and music.
Donation checks should be made out to: “Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy,” with a note in the Memo section on the check stating: “Rick Baker Scholarship.”
