“Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy Guitar Project”


 The 2019/2020 SPMA Guitar Project  will run for a total of 40 weeks of the year divided into 4 sessions:

1st Session (Thursdays): Aug 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.  Sept 5 12, 19, 26. Oct 3.

2nd Session (Thursdays): Oct 10, 17, 24, 31. Nov 7, 14, 21 (closed Thanksgiving). Dec 5, 12, 19.

3rd Session (Thursdays): Jan 9, 16, 23, 30.  Feb 6, 13, 20, 27.  March 5, 12,

4th Session (Thursdays): March 19, 26.  April 2, (closed April 9th) 16, 23, 30.  May 7, 14, 21, 28.


Beginning Guitar 101 – Guitar Project                                                                                      Prerequisite: None. Classes limited to 16 students                                                                 Course Description: Beginning instruction on the guitar with emphasis on the fundamentals  of music as well as basic guitar chord technique and accompaniment figurations.

Sessions schedule:

Thursday 3:30pm to 4:15pm

Thursday 4:15pm to 5:00pm  (This class for students who have taken previous sessions)

Tuition $250  –  Checks made payable to “SPMA”


The Beatles Guitar Project – Limited Space (18 Students, Audition only)                                                         Prerequisite: Students should know all of their basic open chords: A, A7, Am, Am7, B7, Bm7, C, CM7, C7, D, D7, Dm, E, Em, E7, Em7, F, FM7, G, G7. (Students should be able to read and strum chord changes on basic song charts of music written for guitar.)

Course Description: The Beatles Guitar Project ensemble class will study and learn at least one or more songs per class; we may also use class times to play through as many songs as we’ve learned. The class will study various Beatles Songs, Beatles Albums, folk, classic & oldies rock standards that can be played on the guitar and also sung. The students will learn concepts in: chord progression, transposition, rhythm guitar, melody, finger picking & lead guitar parts.                                               

The Beatles Guitar Project Schedule:

Thursday 5:00pm to 6:30pm (The Beatles Guitar Project: “The Yellow Submarine,” runs month to month, throughout the entire year, but subject to change.) Members join by invite/audition only, & must audition with Mr. McClara, Artistic Director of The Beatles Guitar Project. Tuition to join this group is $100 per month.  Guitar Students taking private lessons at SPMA pay $50 per month to join this group.


To Register & Enroll For Guitar Project

1st) RSVP by sending an email to: sacprepmusic@gmail.com Include the students name, Contact Info & tell us what session you plan on attending, and if you’re planing upon applying for Financial Aid.  We will reply to confirm you’re in the class.

2nd) Fill out the SPMA Guitar Project Enrollment Forms . This includes: Guitar Project Info, Enrollment forms, Financial Aid Application (if applying), Instrument Checkout Forms and more. All forms may be picked up at SPMA’s studio located at CLARA, or filled out the first day of class.

3rd) All forms must be filled out and the Liability Waiver must be signed. Students cannot attend any class before signing the Lessons/Policies + Liability Waver Release.


 Note: [If you are applying for Financial Aid, you must provide the necessary information and turn in your Financial Aid Application one week before the 1st class of the session you plan on attending. All scholarships are presented “as needed scholarships.”

Students should be practicing their guitar chord book a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes every day in order to keep up with the class. SPMA recommends the youngest age of Guitar Project Students be at least 8 years old (a perfect age to start playing guitar!)  Students younger than 8 years of age must be able to attend and sit patiently, and behave themselves, for a 45 minute guitar lesson each week for 10 weeks, and be capable of practicing their instrument for the recommended time each day. (Young students, must be told to practice at home every day by their guardian.)
