Welcome to The SPMA Winter Guitar Sessions!
Three Day Guitar Camps! Two Guitar Sessions!
December 20 – 23 & December 27 – 30
Saturday – Monday – Tuesday Intro to Guitar & Beginning Guitar Ensemble
About The Guitar Classes
Introduction to Guitar
These Three Day, Intro to Guitar Classes, offered during both sessions, are designed to teach the most basic aspects of playing guitar to those who are brand new to the instrument. Learn all basic open chords and first position notes in this class, and prepare yourself for a life time of fun on the guitar. Take both winter sessions of this class and sign up for The Guitar Ensemble Class and expand your knowledge by focusing upon song form, chord progression & learn to sing and play some great songs (And yes! we’ll do some Christmas tunes!) These guitar classes are a lot of fun, and are made easy for beginners. These Classes will run for 80 minutes a day beginning at 9:00am, during the SPMA Winter Guitar Sessions.
Beginning Guitar Ensemble Class
This winter we’re offering a 50/50 type ensemble class during both sessions, for guitar players who know all of their open chords and some barre chords only. This class will explore both traditional western style strumming of folk songs and an introduction to classical guitar. The idea behind this class is simple: to learn to play and sing songs together! Whether it be Folk or Country music, or songs from The Beatles, it’s important for the beginning guitarist to learn to play with others, and to gain a feel for tempo and the pulse of music; It is equally important to learn to read notes in first position in a “classical,” sense. These classes will run for 80 minutes a day from 10:40am to 12:00pm during both SPMA Winter Guitar Sessions on Saturday, Monday & Tuesday.
What Classes should I take?
For starters, students should sign up for at least one class. Either: Intro to Guitar Class, or an Ensemble Class. But students are welcome to sign up for both sessions of Intro to Guitar. Students may also sign up for one or both of the Guitar Ensemble Classes.

RECOMMENDATIONS – PLEASE NOTE: In the past, during these types of group oriented classes, students between the age of 6 and 9 have have struggled due to the following: short attention span, small-sensitive-delicate fingers, maturity level, & behavior. If you think that your student may struggle with one or more of these issues, please wait for a later class: maybe the summer 2015 sessions, or next winter. Music is an acquired discipline and skill set that is learned over time, with commitment and dedication anyone can play music; the guitar is a wonderful instrument that is very much enjoyable.
Other Policies: Parents with students under the age of 13 are recommended to be present during the entirety of the students Winter Session. Exceptions are made for young students who are taking the class with an older sibling, 13 years or older.
CARE OF STUDENTS: Sac Prep Music is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Please do not drop off or pick up students more than five minutes before or after class. In the event of irregular attendance, overly repeated disruption of class, or unacceptable behavior, the SPMA, in extreme cases, may ask you to leave the group class.
Sacramento Guitar Society – Scholarships
Working with the SGS we are very fortunate to be able to provide scholarships, partial & full, for kids who want to take classes, but simply do not have the funds to do so. Please email us if you fall into this economic circumstance. SGS has also been very generous in providing SPMA a small lot of classical-nylon string guitars, which are great for beginning guitarists, to lend to students for the duration of the Winter Guitar Session. This winter program is about playing music, and we want as many people to participate that can, please don’t hesitate to ask. Also, if you’re reading this and thinking about someone who would love to participate, you may sponsor that student or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the SGS Scholarship.
If you have received a Certificate to participate in a Winter Guitar Session, you must RSVP which session you plan to attend by sending an email to: email@example.com
